Notebook Lust: Introducing NoteSlate

February 22, 2011 § 1 Comment

When it comes to typing vs. writing longhand, preferences vary widely. Some people feel that typing is the more efficient way to get the words flowing. Others, on the other hand, still feel that there’s nothing quite like good old pen and paper.

This dispute may very well come to an end with the release of NoteSlate — an e-paper tablet that lets you write, sketch, diagram, or doodle to your heart’s content.

Here's one of the product photos from their gallery

It has a whopping 180 hours of battery life and saves all your scribblings via a mini-USB port and an SD card slot, all for $99. And with it comes the Notes Late network that lets you add a whole bunch of extensions to make you even more productive. The are even optional upgrades for wi-fi and mp3 playback, plus future upgrades to view PDF files and incorporate text recognition.

Oh, and did I tell you it comes in different colors?

Gadget lust *ON*.

Honestly, I don’t need another gadget. But as an avid notebook hoarder and as someone who is starting to worry about our forests, I have to say I’m pretty intrigued.

WWF introduces a new green file format

February 9, 2011 § Leave a comment

So much paper is wasted every single day, we hardly even notice. Documents are printed out unnecessarily: reports, recipes, delivery menus, bills, the gazillion flyers that we get along with our bills. Et cetera.

That’s a lot of paper. That’s a lot of trees. And that’s some rapidly dwindling forest space.

A few months ago, the World Wildlife Fund introduced a new file format as part of their “Think Before You Print” campaign. The file format is called WWF, and it’s a file format that can’t be printed out. That’s all it does. It’s so simple, it’s genius.

Encourage awareness about using paper sparingly. Send your documents as a WWF file.

Save as WWF, Save a Tree.

Read more about this new file format and how you can help spread the word on the WWF website.

The Ads of Super Bowl XLV

February 7, 2011 § 4 Comments

This is for all you advertising geeks (like me) who eagerly await the Superbowl each year — not for the game, but for the ads. YouTube has all the 2011 Super Bowl ads in their very own channel, uploaded as soon as they were aired.

Watch them all on YouTube

View, comment, share. I’ll be back to post some of my favorites later.

Update:

So here’s what I think. This year’s runaway winner is definitely Volkswagen – The Force: Best acting for someone who never even shows his face.

Doritos – Pug Attack: “C’mon get a chip! C’mon get a chip!”

Bridgestone – Carma: A beaver pays his debt

But it’s not all kids and animals that get my vote. Far be it from me to like anything Justin Bieber is in, but Ozzy stole the show. “What’s a Bieber?” LOL. Cracked me up big time.

Chevrolet Camaro – Miss Evelyn: Quickest brainstorm ever.

I’d say my least favorite ones were Career Builder, Groupon and Bud Light. What were your favorites? And least favorites? I would love to hear what you think.

How did your day go?

Here’s a really useful way to get the writing juices flowing.

OhLife is a nifty service that sends you an email everyday with one simple question: “How did your day go?”. All you have to do is dash off a few lines and press send. Your responses are then archived in the OhLife website which is, of course, private.

Originally intended to encourage you to write regular journal entries, you can also use it for daily writing exercises or just to ramble on about whatever topic comes to mind.

Getting this in your inbox everyday helps give you that much-needed nudge to take a few moments to write. I set up OhLife to email me first thing in the morning, but you can set yours for the end of the work day or right before you sleep at night. See what works best for you. Sign up for free here.

There are tons of other ways to jumpstart your writing and I’ll be covering some more of mine in the next few posts. But for now, I would really love to hear about yours. Got anything good for me? 🙂
